The Big To Do

This is the To Do list for my life. Evidently, I get my life off the internet.

p.s. it goes without saying for me that my husband, who is a joiner/cabinetmaker, is my partner in all things wood related.

General Projects
 Yard/Gardening
  • Build birdhouses (2 done, infinity to go!)

  • Make back balcony bigger and make a wooden railing
  • Take out the hedge all around the yard and install a fence
  • Install a cat door for Noisette
  • Cover the ground around the pool with a wooden deck

  • Build new shed before old shed collapses on itself (I probably won't actually do much of this myself but still, it's on the list)
 House/Organization
School

Build Bird Feeders

Ever since I moved into a house with a yard I've been really wanting to make it into as much of a paradise as possible. Of course, I'm still living in a city so neighbors are close and yards are small but that doesn't mean I won't make the best of it! In a recent post I put up a picture of some bird houses I made over the weekend. This is my next project:

This basic bird feeder on "This Old House" looks easy, it's actually a "family" project so I should be able to handle it.

This one from Lowes also interests me, especially because it comes with an instructional video. The end result really looks store bought

And no dream yard would be complete without hummingbirds!! I found lots of instructions on how to make a hummingbird feeder with a glass bottle and some wire so I think it'll be quite easy.

here's an example I found on Birds & Bloom

Stuff I Made This Weekend

Homemade Bread (my newest obsession)

Birdhouses I built on the weekend with my husband. Hopefully the first of many.
Found an almost unlimited amount of (french) birdhouse plans at nichoir.net. I love how easy it is to find instructions online.

No More French!

Ok, that title may seem a bit harsh, I have no problems with french. In fact, I've been speaking it since I was a toddler and my bilingualism is a basic part of who I am. What I'm not so at ease with is taking french literature classes as part of my vet tech program.

The great news is that I found out that the vet tech program is offered at a Vanier College. Not only is this an english CEGEP, but it's in Montreal and accessible by public transportation. Of course, every silver lining has it's cloud, I now have to re-take 4 high school chemistry and math classes in order to be competetive in my CEGEP application. Oh well. I have a meeting at the end of the month with an adult education center near my house and will likely be starting these classes in April. I'm secretly excited to get a do-over for these classes anyway. In high school I was pretty unmotivated by sciences. It's only after university that I've developed an interest in nature and how it all works. I had ridiculously bad grades and I'm convinced that I can do better this time around.

The hardest part of all this is that it's going to take up 4 nights a week, which is huge for someone like me who is used to having all her time. The good thing though, is that it'll force me to get the work done at a good pace. Once I get down to working I can be very productive but when it's up to me to set my schedule, like it was when I was taking the correspondence classes, it always seems like there's something more pressing to do than school. I'm not sure yet exactly how attendance works at these adult night classes though. Maybe you're not forced to go each night of the week. All I know is that there's a tutor sitting in on the "class" to answer your questions but other than that it's independent learning, no teacher. I don't even think that all the people in the class with you are even taking the same class that you are. Also, the classes are set up as many modules with a test after each one. This means no cramming for final exams. phew!

  Can't wait!

Unexplained Infertility

Well, the results are in and my husband and I have what they call "unexplained infertility." As far as I can tell this is good news, all results are normal. Now they want me to have a laparoscopy to check for endometriosis and other possible abnormalities with my tubes, ovaries and uterus. I'm a bit nervous about the fact that I'll need general anesthetic and that the recovery might be painful but I haven't come this far in the testing process to stop just before the last step.

After this surgery, and of course depending on the results, we may do artificial insemination. This is a tough issue for my husband and I'm a bit surprised by his reasoning. He thinks that insemination is a too unromantic way of getting pregnant. He would rather we wait a bit longer before going that route. I don't know if he's fully aware of how unromantic this whole process has been for me so far but either way, it's not something I can force on him. I hope he'll come around soon.
